Thinking Gender

Thinking Gender is an annual public conference highlighting graduate student research on women, sexuality, and gender across all disciplines and historical periods. CSW|Streisand Center has been hosting Thinking Gender since 1991.

Call for Proposals

Deadline: Sunday, October 25, 2026, 11:59 pm PDT

How are immigrant communities experiencing today’s immigration enforcement in gendered ways? From detention and deportation to the everyday care that sustains families living in fear, this conference examines how the state produces gendered precarity, and how communities and engaged researchers respond.

We invite graduate students and post-doctoral scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and the arts to share work that informs theory, shapes policy, and empowers communities. Feminist and queer, cross-disciplinary collaborations are especially welcome.

Call for GSR Applications: 2027 Thinking Gender Conference Coordinator

UCLA PhD students are invited to apply for paid GSR position to help coordinate the 37th annual Thinking Gender Conference (TG27), themed “Power and Care in Gendered Migrations.” The conference will be held in person at UCLA on April 29–30, 2027.

A few key details:

Appointment period: November 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027 (up to 25% in fall, up to 50% in winter/spring)
Eligibility: Registered UCLA PhD students (full-time, min. 3.0 cumulative GPA)
Responsibilities include curating conference panels, leading the selection committee, coordinating outreach/fundraising, and preparing conference materials
Application requires a cover letter, CV, unofficial transcript, and two references
Final deadline: Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 11:59 pm (applications reviewed on a rolling basis)
