The Streisand Center Research
About
The UCLA Barbra Streisand Center was established in 2021 and made possible by the vision and generosity of artist and activist Barbra Streisand. The Streisand Center, housed at the UCLA Center for the Study of Women (CSW), is a forward-thinking institute dedicated to finding solutions to the most vital social issues.
Research
Since its inception, the main research priority of the Streisand Center has been to support research and programming on the theme of “Truth in the Public Sphere.” The theme is broadly defined and encompasses work that investigates, for example, the proliferation of disinformation, oppressive structures of silencing minority voices, social media and online discourses, and media activism.
Streisand Public Lecture
The Streisand Center hosts an annual lecture connected to the center’s research and advocacy. This year’s lecture featured the topic: “A Requiem for Roe v. Wade: When Property Has No Privacy.”
The event provided a platform for critical discussion and analysis of the Dobbs decision and its far-reaching consequences.
