UC Sentencing Project

Working with community partner organization California Coalition for Women Prisoners (CCWP), the UC Sentencing Project, a team of faculty and graduate students from three UC campuses and USC, is conducting the first large-scale study on the specific effects of sentencing and incarceration for women, transgender, and non-binary people caught up in the criminal legal system. Prioritizing a participatory action research model that centers the perspectives and insights of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated people, the UC Sentencing Project tracks how gender, race, sexuality, socioeconomic status, and region and influence the length of sentences.
