The mission of the Black Women and Femmes Research Summit (BWFRS) is to create a peer-led space where all who identify as Black women and femmes conducting research at UCLA can be highlighted as the leaders of innovation while fostering a vibrant and inclusive community that values, elevates, and “gives flowers” to the contributions of Black women and femmes in research. BWFRS aims to inspire and equip the next generation of Black women and femmes in research with the knowledge, networks, and resilience needed to make a profound impact at UCLA and beyond.

The purpose of BWFRS is to establish an intentional opportunity to celebrate the groundbreaking research of Black women and femmes engaged in critical, innovative, and timely scholarship, while providing a student-driven platform for aspiring and emerging Black scholars. The group intends to create a nurturing environment where Black women and femmes can engage, connect, and find inspiration, ensuring that the brilliance of Black women and femmes shines even brighter in the world of research.
