Black Feminism Initiative Faculty Award 2024-2025

Description

The Center for the Study of Women|Streisand Center invites applications for an award for scholars engaged in the study of Black feminism and/or who demonstrate evidence of mentorship and other institutional support of Black women, non-binary, and LGBTQ+ people or other underrepresented communities.

Amount

Two course course releases valued at $9,656 each.

Note: This award is contingent on approval by the dean and chair of the awardee’s unit and the timing of course releases scheduling is at the unit’s discretion. Each division or school has pre-established policies for the amount of funding required for faculty course releases; therefore, the amount of this award may not entirely release a course for faculty in certain units. Please consult your department chair or financial officer to ascertain the course release amounts for your unit prior to applying.

Criteria

  • Applicants must be UCLA senate faculty engaged in the study of Black feminism and/or who demonstrate evidence of mentorship of Black women, non-binary, LGBTQ+ or other underrepresented communities.
  • Pre-tenure faculty will be prioritized for this award.
  • Recipients of the grant must agree to the following:
  • Submit a brief final report describing research or other career activities supported by the course releases by June 30 of the academic year in which the course release was taken
  • Acknowledge CSW|Streisand Center in all public informational materials and publications resulting from the grant
  • Recipients will be recognized at a future CSW|Streisand Center Awards Celebration. CSW|Streisand Center staff will coordinate your attendance accordingly.

The application requires the following documents:

  1. Letter of application
  2. 3 single-spaced page maximum description that includes:
    1. A brief discussion of research or other career activities to be supported by the course releases
    2. Your mentorship and other institutional support activities of Black women, non-binary, and LGBTQ+ people, or other underrepresented communities (optional but recommended for applicants whose research does not engage with Black feminism)
    3. Explanation of other course releases, sabbaticals, or research leaves in the last three years.
  3. Curriculum Vitae

Only complete applications will be considered. CSW|Streisand Center must receive all required documents no later than 11:59 PM (PST) on Friday, April 12, 2024.
