Announcing the 2023–2024 Annual Report
The CSW|Streisand Center is excited to announce the publication of our 2023–2024 Annual Report! The full report and the abridged, illustrated version are both available to download.
The 2023–2024 academic year marked the 40th anniversary of the Center for the Study of Women. This year was also notably marked by significant organizing efforts on campuses nationwide, including at UCLA, where students protested in solidarity with Palestine. The Palestine Solidarity Encampment at UCLA became a focal point for principled protest. Our center continues to emphasize our mission rooted in anti-carceral feminist studies, which critiques policing and punishment while advocating for alternatives based on mutual care and support. In light of these events, the CSW|Streisand Center’s commitment to advancing social justice feminism was even more vital.
Our work in 2023–2024 included several key initiatives: supporting the UC Sentencing Project’s research on long-term sentencing in California women’s prisons, backing the Transnational Gender and Labor Working Group, and hosting a hybrid annual Thinking Gender Graduate Student Conference on “Dystopian Realities, Feminist Utopias.” We also welcomed our inaugural activist-in-residence, partnered on the creation of The People’s Library at UCLA’s downtown campus, and completed renovations of our office suite. These efforts were made possible by the dedication of our staff, faculty leadership, and the Streisand Foundation’s generous support. Looking ahead, we remain committed to fostering impactful research, events, and collaborations.
