Sarah Haley is an Associate Professor of  Gender Studies and holds a joint PhD in African American Studies and American Studies. Her work focuses on Black feminist theory and history, gender and the carceral state, abolition, and archival methods.  She is the author of No Mercy Here: Gender, Punishment, and the Making of Jim Crow Modernity (2016) and is at work on a new book, The Carceral Interior: A Black Feminist Study of American Punishment.  She grew up between the Bronx and Brooklyn and has organized with the international union UNITE HERE and currently works with Scholars for Social Justice.
