SUMMARY:Craft Writing Workshop with Lauren Markham
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Craft Writing Workshop with Lauren Markham\n“From Fact to Story: Bringing Our Research to Life on the Page” \nWednesday\, January 13\, 2027\, 4 – 5:30 PM \nRoyce 314 | Seating is first come first served. \n\nFrom Fact to Story: Bringing our Research to Life on the Page \nAs researchers\, we have seemingly endless facts at our disposal\, and often many ideas we wish to communicate through our written work. As scholars committed to a feminist perspective\, how might our overarching frameworks help us notice facts and ideas that might often be overlooked? And\, how do we turn those facts into story\, and how do we turn these ideas we have into a cohesive narrative? In this workshop\, we’ll use a few case studies to trace how idea can become story\, and how we can use narrative tools (scene\, character\, action\, movement) in our academic and public scholarship for more engaging\, impactful work. \nLauren Markham is an award-winning writer and journalist based in California whose work regularly appears in outlets such as Harper’s\, The New York Review of Books\, The New York Times Magazine and VQR\, where she is a contributing editor. She is the author of the award-winning The Far Away Brothers: Two Young Migrants and the Making of an American Life\, the California Book Award shortlisted A Map of Future Ruins: On Borders and Belonging (2024) and the recently-released Immemorial. \nThank You to Our Co-sponsors: \nOffice of the Vice Chancellor for Research\, Innovation & Creative Activities\nUCLA Anderson School of Management\nUCLA Herb Alpert School of Music\nUCLA Division of Humanities\nUCLA Division of Life Sciences\nUCLA Division of Social Sciences\nUCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs\nUCLA Samueli School of Engineering\nUCLA School of Law\nUCLA School of Theater\, Film\, and Television
